SMC INSTITUTIONAL LIQUIDITY ALERT

What is a "Pre-News Liquidity Freeze"?

Even on days when all banks are open, the forex market often freezes into choppy consolidation 3 to 6 hours before a red-folder macroeconomic release (such as U.S. Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP), CPI Inflation, or Federal Reserve Rate Decisions).

⚑ Institutional Advice: When the market is barely moving, do not force breakouts! Major banks have pulled their order books to wait for the red-folder release.

Frequently Asked Questions: Forex Liquidity & Bank Holidays

The forex market moves slowly when institutional liquidity is low. This typically happens during three scenarios: (1) Major national bank holidays in the US (New York) or UK (London), (2) Institutional 'Pre-News Freezes' where banks pull their order books hours before a major red-folder release like NFP or CPI, or (3) The Asian session 'lunch lull' between 06:00 and 09:00 EAT.
